Equine Valor Project, Veterans Equine Therapy PTSD Program, serves Veterans here in Richmond Hill, Georgia, and surrounding areas.

WHO WE ARE

A place to find support for Veterans and First Responders through the use of horses and our fellow brothers and sisters in arms. This site is designed to promote a healthy approach to dealing with the effects of PTSD and other behavioral health related conditions, as well as provide resources locally and beyond.

Equine Valor Project's mission is to provide services to military personnel and veterans through Equine Activity and Therapy programs that are tailored to address specific issues faced by wounded and military personnel combating PTSD, while also providing a supportive and therapeutic environment for their families and loved ones.

Our goal is to assist military veterans using current therapies, with future aspirations of additional activities such as sports and recreational riding, trail riding, camping and community outreach. Funding through donations and grant support will allow for us to provide the additional services. Lessons and service are currently through individual and group lessons which provide innovative, recreational and therapeutic activities using the horse.

I found out about EVP through a friend I used to work with in the military. As soon as she mentioned what they do and their mission, I was immediately excited to learn more and participate myself. Unfortunately for me, the timing wasn’t perfect as I was planning to leave on a trip that would prevent me from completing the full program. Fortunately for me, EVP welcomed me with open arms nonetheless and taught me as much as possible in my short timeframe of availability.

Working with horses is something I’ve always wanted to experience, and I’m immensely grateful for the time I spent with EVP on that front. Beyond that though, I felt the rewards of hard work, the passion of a new hobby, and the relatability of other veterans learning alongside me. If you don’t know that you share my interest in horses or are hesitant for any other reasons, I encourage you to push those things to the side.

EVP fosters community and healing, amongst so many other things. Separating from the military, in conjunction with everyday life stressors, can be a lot. Consider EVP not only your safe haven but your road to finding peace post military transition.

EVP even goes beyond care of veterans, and extends their welcome to family members which can be both fun and rewarding for everyone involved. I hope more than anything the veteran community takes advantage of the services EVP offers and shares in the love of their family - human and equine alike. 🤍

With a heart full of anticipation, I embark on the journey to EVP, windows down, the wind carrying my favorite melodies. The thrill rises, knowing that soon I will engage in the serene embrace of horse therapy. As I descend the driveway, flanked by majestic horses grazing and galloping on either side, a wave of tranquility washes over me.

Upon entering the stables, the symphony of horses neighing and the warm welcome from the EVP team, I feel my worries begin to dissipate. This sanctuary has granted me the precious gift of release—though fleeting, those moments are priceless. There is an ineffable magic in gazing into the eyes of these noble creatures; they offer solace that slows my racing heart and quiets my restless mind, a solace I have yearned for and at long last, discovered.

This program has been a beacon of healing, a refuge where my anxiety, PTSD, anger, frustrations, and depression are gently soothed. I sincerely hope that others are blessed with the chance to experience this profound journey towards peace and rejuvenation.

Each step is designed to help Veterans move beyond the weight of PTSD and mental health struggles.

Replacing isolation with camaraderie, fear with confidence, and hopelessness with resilience.

But the journey doesn’t end after 6 weeks.

Veterans bond deeply with one another, carry their new skills forward, and many return as cadre to guide the next class.
